Food, agriculture and cities : challenges and priorities
Dear all,
You’ll find as an attached document the briefing note "Food, agriculture and cities : challenges and priorities". It includes comments we have received and it has been reviewed by an English editor. According to the mainstream conclusions of our September workshop, we should have a broad approach of sustainable urban/peri-urban-centered food system based on territorial planning, as tried to be reflected into this note.
Feel free to use this advocacy document for your presentations and to share it with your networks and contacts.
As for the other documents expected after the workshop, a draft of the discussion paper has been updated by RUAF and recently sent to us. We’ll have some comments and hope to have this document finished very rapidly with RUAF and put on the Internet, printed and circulated. The proceedings of the two-day consultation are currently being worked on.
We’ll have an FSN forum starting next week on “food, agriculture and cities” ( http://km.fao.org/fsn/fsn-home/en/ ). The attached note will be used as the introductory message. We’ll just have to add some questions to launch the discussion and receive contributions.
We also hope that this note will broadly circulate during the coming World Summit on Food Security November 16-18 ( http://www.fao.org/wsfs/world-summit/en/ ). You can already send it to your contacts in Ministries or FAO Permanent representations. It may help and contribute to build a consensus at high level on this issue !
We’re also working on the preparation of the World Urban Forum. We’d like to have different networking events (details in another email to come soon). In order to facilitate our discussions, as decided during the workshop, we’ll set up an e-mail distribution list.
Best regards,
Julien.
